While in the hotel in Idaho Falls the boys were playing on the bed and Beck fell and hit his mouth on the nightstand. He cut his lip a little. As we were getting in the car to go I checked his lip one more time. What I found shocked me! It wasn't his lip but at the back of his throat there was this huge thing. I made Jason come and look at it and we decided upon further inspection that is was probably a swollen tonsil...a HUGE swollen tonsil. Beck had a little head cold but nothing more so we decided to continue on with our trip. An hour or so into our drive I thought Beck asked me for a blanket. His blanket wasn't close by but for some reason a towel was so I gave him that instead. As luck would have it about 2 min. later Beck threw up! Lucky for us he had that towel on his lap. Beck seemed fine after that so we continued on our trip.
This year we stayed in the Canyon campground. Our first job was to set up our tent. Everyone pitched in. We went on a walk later that evening and had our fajitas for dinner.
Last year we did all our cooking on a tiny one burner stove. We had to eat in shifts and decided this year we needed to step things up a notch so we got a two burner camp stove and a griddle for on top. It was awesome and our meals were way more fancy.
Our first stop in the morning was to the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone.
It was a bit of a hike to get up to it and some of the campers weren't too happy about that part.
Graham took this picture of a marmot. We have a special place in our heart for marmots seeing as how one ate a huge hole in our last tent.
We found a nice picnic spot for lunch.
Petrified Tree
We drove FOREVER to get to Mammoth Hot Springs.
It was pretty hot outside and I was wearing jeans. There were tons of stairs to go up and since we'd driven so far to get there we wanted to see it all so the boys worked together to heft Beck in his stroller up a million stairs. Beck was sweet and would always thank the boys when they put him down.
We finally made it to the tippy top when Jonah announced that he had to go pee...UGH! Of course there isn't even a tree in sight that we can hide behind and no bathrooms at the top so off Jonah and I went to sprint back down to the bottom (did I mention we had just gotten to the top and it was REALLY HOT outside).
After the urine crisis was averted we saw the Yellowstone Post office and walked through the visitors center. I had changed into a skirt by now to try and thwart the heat. When it was time for the drive back we were exhausted so much that Jason had to pull over and go for a little walk to wake himself up.
Back at camp it was spaghetti for dinner and the boys spent lots of time playing with sticks.
Jason showed the boys how to make a fire and then we all did some s'mores with Reeses instead of Hersheys for chocolate. MMMMMMM.
It was always an adventure trying to get exhausted Beck to bed. Thank goodness for the ipad, Beck was able to watch a little movie before bed time and that made all the difference. The boys did really good at night. Beck would wake up early but we were all warm and comfy. I was about 14 weeks pregnant on this trip and I took SEVERAL trips each night to the bathroom.
