Beck's Surgery

After panicking that Beck had sleep apnea in Bear Lake a few days later I noticed that the tonsil had grown so big that it was touching his uvula.  I don't know much about tonsils but that didn't look right to me.  So I called and wondered if we needed to go to a different ENT since ours was going out of town and we couldn't move up the surgery.  They had us come back in and when the ENT looked at it he said it was ok and that the surgery could wait.  I decided that to keep my peace of mind for 3 more weeks I needed to NOT listen to Beck sleep at night and NOT look in his mouth anymore!
He survived until his surgery date and on Sept. 14th he had both tonsils and adnoids out.
We got up bright and early and drove to Provo.  We all got name tags.  Mine said, "Beck's Mom".  I have never loved a name tag more!
The last time we were in a hospital with Beck was when he was born and I didn't get the name tag or bracelet.  That went to someone else at the time.  This time I did get the bracelet that said Beck was mine and it felt soooooo good!

Beck was a good sport about putting the little gown on but he wasn't a fan of the socks so they had to go.  While we waited we sat in a little playroom and we all played dinosaurs for a while.

The ENT came and talked to us and then anesthesiologist came and we all walked down a hall together and then he took Beck from Jason and they walked through some doors and that was it.  I didn't know that was when we'd be separated so I didn't even get to give him a hug.

Jason and I headed out to the waiting room and being 23ish weeks pregnant I had to pee twice while we waited.  The last time I went I came back and Jason was gone!  Beck was out and I missed it.  I had to get a receptionist to help me find them.  When I found them they were like this...

Beck was a trooper!  He wasn't crying and was only upset about the IV in his arm and as long as we kept that under the blanket he was fine.
He ate two popsicles while we were there and watched Chicken Little.  Thank goodness for the iPad.  Without having something to watch I think he would have been a little more grumpy.

He was happy to get the IV out and we were happy to be headed home.  They sent his tonsils to be biopsied but a lot of the worry was that it was only one HUGE tonsil and when they got in there it ended up that both were HUGE but one was growing back so we couldn't see it like the other one.

By the time we got home Beck was ready for a  hotdog!  He did really well recovering.  No bleeding and no pain meds other than tylenol.  He ate and drank great.  Day 3 and 4 were the hardest, like they said they would be, but he was just irritable.  He did get a random bout of diarrhea, then a rash the next day, and threw up twice the day after that.  That was when Jonah learned a good lesson on listening the first time.  He was taking a bath with Beck and I told him he needed to get out but he chose to ignore me.  2 min. later Beck totally barfed in the tub with Jonah still in there!
We had our follow up visit 2 weeks later and everything looked great.  The biopsy came back and no lymphoma.  I can't remember the official name of what he had but it was something about  having tonsils that grow like they are on steroids.  Beck has never even had more than a head cold so that explained the crazy HUGE tonsils.

As I was doing this post Beck saw the pictures of himself at the hospital and immediately grabbed his throat and said, "hurt, tonsils".  He was a really great sport about the whole thing and I'm sooooo glad it's all over!

How old is Beck? Landen had his tonsils out jus before he turned 2 and we got to go to Primary Children's AND stay the night. It gave me peace of mind. He looks darling in those pictures. What a cute kid. I am glad for you that it is over too. Having a little one get tonsils out is rough!
