Day 4

We started our day bright and early with some swimming/snorkeling. It didn't last long. It started raining and was overcast and we got cold.
We hid out here and read until the rain stopped.
It never really warmed up so we decided to get some of our shopping out of the way. We needed some food for Sunday and so we headed to Costco. It takes FOREVER to drive anywhere in town. The roads are so congested! Then the Costco parking lot had lines of cars waiting to get a parking spot. It's no wonder, Costco there is as cheap as Costco here hotdogs and all and compared to how expensive everything is everywhere else we were willing to wait for a parking spot. Costco was also next to a Dole place so we wandered over there but it wasn't too exciting. Next we decided to make a "quick" stop at Walmart. The Walmart parking was underground. We went there to find some cheese. Of course they would have cheese at a Super Walmart. Or so you would think but they didn't have any cheese. They didn't even have a dairy OR produce section!?! UGH! The trip wasn't totally in vain, since we had spent so much time trying to get from Costco to Walmart we didn't have time to go to the swap meet so we found Walmart's souvenir section and took care of our shopping there.

On our LONG drive back to the hotel we drove past the famous Hawaii statue that they always show on Hawaii five-O. We also drove through China Town and saw this guy carrying his dog on his back in a child carrier (pic above).
We were so annoyed that we had wasted a huge chunk of our day driving and going to stores. So after dropping our stuff off we jumped back in the car and headed for the North Shore. Waimea Bay was our first stop. It had huge waves that crashed up on the beach so not too many people were in the water. It had a cliff to the side that some people were jumping from. It was still pretty windy and overcast so we just hung out and watched the waves.

Our big plan was to watch the sunset at Sunset Beach while we had a picnic. So we left Waimea and drove to Sunset but by then it was still overcast and had started pouring rain. It wasn't meant to be. On the bright side we found a grocery store that had CHEESE! They also had macadamia nuts covered in coconut and then covered in chocolate! SCORE!
For dinner we ended up back in Haleiwa (the little North Shore surf town) at a yummy Thai place. We chose to eat outside and it was still drizzling but we didn't get wet.
Check out my bowl of pineapple curry! It was HUGE! We took a nighttime stroll through town and back to our car. Of course by now I was so tired (still had a cold) but we did manage to eat a large quantity of those chocolate coconut macadamia nuts on the way back to the hotel.
