We were at the little neighborhood grocery store the other day and as we headed back to our car Jonah noticed the phone booth and asked, "What's that?" I had to explain to him about phone booths and then he gave it a try.
It didn't work.
On a side note: This is Jonah's favorite grocery store because you can buy bubble gum in the machines for one cent. Sweet!

Do you want to know something funny about that exact phone? My dad is actually the guy that has been in charge of taking these 'antiquated' phones out all over the state. I know exactly why that one is still there. The managers were giving him some flak about getting to where he needed to to disconnect it. Apparently somebody jimmy-rigged the soda machines into the same power system when they shouldn't have and the managers were having a hard time communicating as to what they wanted to do to get him to take it out. A decision was never reached. So, my dad left and was never called back to finish removing it. :) Also, there are some people who are convinced that these phones are going to be worth something someday. Damon has had a great time selling some of the ones my dad has removed.
What? You can buy gum there for only 1 cent? I am going to have to look into that next time we're there. That will be a great bribe...
I think this is so funny - had the same conversation with my kids not very long ago. After my explanation of pay phones they just wanted to know why you wouldn't use your cell phone. Good question :-)
Nothing to make you feel old like your kids being baffled by what was common to you.
I had a kid read a story about Magic Johnson the other day and he had no clue who he was so I compared him to Michael Jordan. He had no idea who that was. Kobe Bryant finally worked. (And this was a kid who loves basketball.)
Hilarious!!! I totally forgot they even existed! By the way you keep up on your blog SOOOO good. I need to be better like you!
