I now understand the horror my mom felt when bell bottom (now known as bootcut or flare) pants came back in style. The recent fad of tight jeans that remind me of my pegged pants is bad enough but now VESTS are back and I just saw in a store the other day BLACK STIRRUP PANTS! That's right, so let me take you on a little Kristin Fashion Flashback...

This picture is from Girl's Camp 1991. Note that we are all wearing tight and/or pegged jeans. Thank goodness the high waist didn't make a come back!

Ok, this beauty is my 7th grade picture in which I am sporting a vest, blah! On a side note my mom likes to explain away my chipmunk cheeks by saying that I grew "out" before I grew "up".

What could be more appropriate Disneyland attire then black stretchy pants and lacy socks. For those who knew me way back then you may remember this was a theme I had going up until the 8th grade.

This was me in 5th or 6th grade. I was so positive that this outfit matched. I remember my sister Jenny arguing with me about how it didn't match but I didn't believe her. I should have listened.

Never mind my hair in this pic it's the stylin baseball leather jacket that was the real winner. I believe I bought it at that store called Vanity.

As I was looking through all my pictures I found these two treasures. The top is from when I took Jazz. I'm on the top 2nd from the right. I was not amused. The bottom one is a famous picture from a sleepover I had at my house growing up. I'm posting it because just last month I saw the person in this picture who shall remain nameless and we talked about this picture. So I couldn't resist posting it!

To sum up my Fashion Flashback I am committing to NOT wear tight jeans, vests, or black stretchy pants ever again no matter how popular they become! All in favor say eye (ok so that's not the right kind of eye but whatever)!

You are one hot mama! :) I too was rocking the stirrup pants back in the day too!
Oh no you didn't! :)
I am impressed that you have easy access to all of these pictures. I personally love the baseball leather jacket most. What a fashionista!
You are one daring woman to share all those beautiful pictures. Mine are safely hidden away. What scares me most are some of the pants that I have seen guys wearing. I sometimes think that they may not be able to have children in the future because their pants are so tight.
You are hilarious...what a awesome post! You are so gorgeous! I love seeing some of your pictures from growing up.
Love the flashback - do not love our current fashion choices- thanks for reminding all of us not to give in to the trends!
Nice! Ahhh, the memories.
Eye Eye!!! or is the aye aye?...anyway...I think I had all those same outfits!!! Ahh...the vests...!! At least with stirup pants you don't have to worry about your pants riding up on you...right?!
I, I, eye, eye, aye, aye, whatever it is I'm on the list for not wearing those!
The saddest part - Vanity still exists! I'll add to the ayes! I'm also praying that "unit belts," plastic beads and body suit shirts don't come back - although I did see someone wearing leg warmers the other day! We were so HOT back then! I swore my kids would never be able to laugh at my pictures 'cause I would always be in style . . . I guess I was in style, but I'm the one laughing! Thanks for the memories today!
I've heard that there is a fashion rule which goes something like this: If you've already lived through a particular fashion trend you are not required to submit a second time. Nor should you.
I agree. Whole heartedly. There will be NO stirrup pants for this gal.
I am still laughing. I love the trip down memory lane. How come we have been friends for years and I have never ever seen any of those pictures. Next time we are going through the album. Love ya and miss ya tons. Melissa
So many things I could say! I will go with, you are a brave women and thanks for not including any pics with me in them!
Hey those black pants and white lacey socks are classic girl . . . don't be dissin' on them! Do you remember my gold MC Hammer pants that were also bought at Vanity? Seriously, what were we thinking? Oh wait. I remember. We were thinkin' we were pretty funny and HOT!
The greatest are the vests worn strictly with the black stirrup pants, they were so cool that our sewing teacher thought it would be awesome to make them in class, you are probably wearing the one you actually sewed!! Go Joan Lacomb and the Angels! PLEASE DO NOT LET ME EVER WEAR THAT STYLE AGAIN!!! it is trendy and I am not a trendy mom so therefore you WILL NOT be seeing me in my homemade vest with stirrup pants, or my stonewashed pegged pants with my awesome leather jacket purchased at Vanity...I am just waiting for the NEON colors to come back!
Well Kristin, high waists were actually on the runway (I think last fall), neon colors are in the stores in force, skinny jean, leggings (including stirups) are very popular, and leg warmers are no longer just a thing of the past. Don't forget the hideously unflattering sweater dresses and long t-shirts w/ little skirts sewn to the bottoms - I've seen those in stores too! Yikes!!! Thanks for sharing the pictures!
So i should take my black stretch pants back?
I LOVE THE FASHION FLASHBACK!! You are super brave :)
one question. Is that a wig wreath above your fireplace? Did you family all save up after hair cuts? Just curious
Where do you find this stuff? I don't believe even 'she who will remain nameless' has a picture of that night!I do believe she is still using that technique during extreme allergy season! And just so you know- I totally coveted that baseball jacket back in the day! Great flashback!
