Its official, Graham is a first grader. On Monday when I dropped him off I expected it to be a big deal like in kindergarten where all the moms were taking pictures and crying. Not so much. I walked Graham to the outside door where he waits for his teacher and I get one picture in but then 2 other little first graders I recognize from last year asked me to help them find their teacher. I turned around for 2 sec. to help them and when I turned back around Graham's class had already gone in. I missed it! I didn't go home yet though. I sat in the parking lot for 20 min. debating the pros and cons of moving Graham from 9:15 to 8:00.
Pros
Way fewer kids in his class for reading and math
Reading and math first thing in the morning
Gets home earlier so we have the afternoon to play
Most of his friends have changed to 8
They needed more kids to change to 8 and were more than happy to accommodate us
Cons
We don't do mornings
I'll only get 8 hrs. of sleep instead of 10
So after making a few phone calls from the car (I was still sitting in the parking lot) to be sure about my decision I went ahead and made the change and so far so good. In fact his teacher thanked me for moving him to 8 and said he does so much better which is funny because she only had him at 9:15 for one afternoon so that must have been some afternoon.
Lunch has been an adventure. I was going all out the first week and let him have cheetos, sour patch kids, and a capri sun with his sandwich and apple. The first day he ate everything but as the days went by he ate less and less until all he was eating was half a sandwich. He says it's because he doesn't want to miss any of his recess. So now I just pretend that his school lunch time is snack time and then I feed him again at 2:15 when he gets home.

Ah... Gramn is getting so big. He is a very good looking little guy! I'm glad that he is liking school so much. That's funny about am vs. pm at the school. Our school we can't get am because so many people want it. I do enjoy the extra sleep though.
My kids always come home from school and eat a meal anyway...why even bother packing them a lunch? LOL! You have one handsome little guy!!
Can you believe that they are so old. I'm glad that is all went well for the first week of shcool. James starts tomorrow and can't wait. thanks again for coming up it was fun. Until next time.
is it bad that I am excited for my kids to go to school? actually I am sure I will be sad. I am just a little home bound at the moment with 3 kids in car seats.
I'm glad you and Jason got to do those things together and all alone. You need more of that time. I'll watch your kids anytime!
You get 10 hours of sleep! Holy crap! I think the last time I got to sleep that long was...hmm... probably like 2002.
Good call on the 8:00 thing, even though you will be losing some of your beauty sleep. Good thing you are just naturally beautiful!
Graham is getting way to big! I wish I could have 10 hours of sleep, eight would be even nice. He is a cutie. Can't wait to see you this weekend. You're coming right? I'll call you!
Today is Coops first day. He has to catch the bus at 8:25 and I thought that was early, I already have a "tired" headache for having to get up before 8. I dont know how you do it!!
Oh, I love the first day of school stories. I think the pro/con list is great. your crack me up.
Yes I would say being an early bird is so much better! I am sorry you are loosing 2 hours of sleep tho;)
10 hours of sleep? How do you do that? I'm jealous even at 8. Good job! Glad school is going well. Graham is growing up so fast!
